About the Event
Own a mid-century modern home? Dealing with the joys and pitfalls of a flat roof? Struggling with your casement windows? Got concrete that needs help? Learn about all this at Mid-Century Modern: Concrete and More. The workshop will be held at a one-of-a-kind poured concrete structure home built in 1938-39 by St. Cloud residents, Colie and Naomi Guy. This early twentieth century art deco wonder is the perfect setting for a class on modernist architecture and concrete. Experience polished concrete floors, floor-to-ceiling round windows and a spiral staircase that leads to a large rec room in the lower level. Artists and horticulturalists, the Guys designed their home on the banks of the Mississippi River to be the “House-of-Tomorrow.”
This class will increase your knowledge of modernist architecture, its challenges and benefits, and will empower you to tackle a wide variety of repair and maintenance projects on your own. Learn how modernist structures are filled with great living spaces and are adaptable to just about any lifestyle and use.
The class will include a tour and assessment of the home with owner and real estate agent, Gavin Henry, and instructor, Eric Cheever, followed by a crash course in the basics of concrete maintenance and repair. Learn what to look for from a realtor and a building expert and see how a perceived pitfall can actually be a benefit. Join us Saturday, May 14th, 9:30 am to noon!
