About the Event
Learn how to install and maintain prairie gardens at two new landscaping classes – Prairie Gardens Install and Prairie Gardens Maintenance. Taught by Ben Wood, a local environmental expert and organic farmer, these classes will teach you how prairie gardens not only provide much-needed habitat for wildlife and help restore and sustain the environment, they also protect buildings and structures by reducing air pollution and providing moisture control, both of which can cause significant damage. Learn how prairie gardens can enhance the beauty and function of your property.
Prairie Gardens Install takes place June 11th, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Jodon House (213 Northeast 2nd Street) in Little Falls. This Greek Revival-style home was built in 1858 by Dr. Zachariah Jodon, a doctor and carpenter, and his wife, Sarah. A local landmark, the house is the oldest still standing in the community. This hands-on class will teach you how to establish a prairie garden at your own home or property, including soil preparation, seed and seedling planting, and early maintenance. Learn how to select the right plants for your site and how to prep the ground for the best possible outcome.
Join Ben for one or more of these new classes and learn about the integral role healthy landscapes play in preservation.
